QCPD reshuffles key officials

MANILA, Philippines - The leadership of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has implemented a revamp of police officials handling key posts at its headquarters, and will reshuffle its station commanders soon.

Among those affected by the order that came out last Monday were the officials involved in the initial police investigation on the death of broadcaster Ted Failon’s wife, Trinidad Etong, but QCPD director Chief Superintendent Elmo San Diego said the revamp had nothing to do with it.

He said there was an earlier revamp order that came out on April 15 – the day Etong was found with a gunshot wound to her head at their home – but was put on hold because of the case that had to be handled by the QCPD-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) at that time.

Superintendent Franklin Moises Mabanag, who at that time headed the QCPD-CIDU, has been transferred to the QCPD’s District Mobile Group. The QCPD-DMG includes the city police’s bomb squad and special weapons and tactics team.

Superintendent Gerardo Ratuita, who was then Mabanag’s deputy, has now assumed as the new chief of the QCPD-CIDU. Other officials from the QCPD-CIDU – Chief Inspector Cherry Lou Donato and Senior Inspector Roberto Razon – were transferred to the QCPD-DMG.

San Diego said there is an ongoing evaluation, started last April, of the performance of QCPD’s 11 station commanders. – Reinir Padua
