2 Dutch backpackers robbed

-

MANILA, Philippines – Two Dutch women were robbed inside a passenger jeepney by a man armed with a knife in Sta. Cruz, Manila Monday night, police said yesterday.

Backpackers Eva Mary Kappen, 23, and Anna Woudstra, 23, personally lodged their complaint at the General Assignment Section of the Manila Police District after they were assisted by a concerned citizen, according to Police Officer 3 Henry Ligson.

The victims said they were riding an Ermita-bound passenger jeepney at around 11 p.m. when the man drew out a knife and divested them of their belongings just as the vehicle was cruising Jones Bridge. The man then jumped off the jeepney and ran towards Quiapo.

The two victims lost P4,600, a cellular phone and their backpacks.

Police scoured the Quiapo area for the suspect but failed to find him. – Nestor Etolle
