Pasang Masda meets with Manila mayor
MANILA, Philippines - Officers and members of transport group Pasang Masda met with Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim yesterday to iron out problems regarding the jeepney terminals found in different areas in the city. Among the issues brought out by Pasang Masda were the management of so-called jeepney terminals and encroachment of the same by tricycles, pedicabs and the improvised transportation known as kuliglig.
Pasang Masda national president Roberto Martin mentioned a minor conflict with another jeepney association which is causing trouble in their terminals located at Banquero and Dasmariñas streets in Divisoria. Martin told Lim that there was already a court decision in 2005 which gave them authority to manage the jeepney terminal in said area but the other group has been harassing them.
In answer, Lim directed newly appointed Manila Police Traffic chief Superintendent Rizaldy Yap to follow the court’s decision and help the Pasang Masda resolve the problem. In other matters, the mayor said any other concern should be addressed and resolved within the context of the law and everyone should follow suit.
“All we need to do is to obey the law, so that we will not make any mistake,” he said. – Sandy Araneta
