Caloocan parents urged to use new method to check students' performance

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City government is urging parents to adopt a home-based educational system to methodically monitor their children’s daily school performance and personal developments.

Mayor Enrico Echiverri said SIKAT or Simulan ang Karunungan sa Tahanan program is a form of educational appraisal system for parents to evaluate their children’s academic development and their emotional, spiritual and physical growth.

He said the system is not that complicated and does not involved highly technical approach but only requires the “parent’s direct supervision and involvement” in their child’s learning activities.

Echiverri said parents can assess for themselves whether or not their child is performing well at school, and this gives them an opportunity to immediately remedy any inadequacies.

The project, launched only last month, is being adopted by the city’s 59 primary and 26 secondary public schools.

The city government has tapped the 85 local Parents-Teachers Associations to coordinate with school officials for the effective implementation of the program.Pete Laude
