MANILA, Philippines - A “commotion” that occurred at the Quezon City Jail last night started with a basketball landing in a cooking pot, police said.
Inspector Corazon Sandoval of the Quezon City Police District-Station 10 said the incident happened after a ball from a group of Batang City Jail (BCJ)members playing hoops landed in a pot, injuring a member of the Commando Gang who was cooking.
“The Commando members were reportedly just waiting for an apology from the BCJ members. That ‘sorry’ never came and it apparently irked members of Commando and that was what started the commotion,” she said.
Sandoval said no one was reported hurt in the incident which started at around 6:45 p.m. and ended 10 minutes later after jail guards pacified the two gangs.
“We can’t really consider it a rumble since there were no deadly weapons involved. The inmates just threw benches and dippers and other utensils at each other,” Sandoval said.
“When we arrived there, the inmates were already back inside the cells. We just found the benches and the utensils all scattered at the basketball court,” she added. – Reinir Padua
