Missing cop's wife now in Aviation Security Group custody

MANILA, Philippines - The wife of a policeman reported to have been taken hostage by at least seven former policemen at an apartelle in Taguig City last week is now in the custody of police authorities.

Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan, Taguig police chief, said Niña Sandag, wife of Police Officer 2 Jamaron Sandag, is in the care of the Aviation Security Group

“She requested for protection especially that her husband is still missing. Her two children, meanwhile, were brought to their hometown,” Cascolan said in an interview.

He said they are still gathering information concerning Sandag’s whereabouts.

Earlier, the Taguig police launched a search for Sandag, 32, a member of the NAIA Terminal Aviation Security Group.

Police said they received a call last Wednesday about the alleged hostage-taking at the Taguig Plaza Apartelle in Barangay Western Bicutan.

Cascolan said that elements of their Special Weapons and Tactics team searched and inspected all the rooms in the six-story building but failed to locate Sandag and his alleged hostage-takers.

Niña said the suspects could be envious of her husband’s achievements. Sandag received a Medal of Valor after he fought off with at least 100 members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Abu Sayyaf who attacked a municipal hall and police station in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte in 2003. – Rhodina Villanueva
