Businessman, wife stabbed dead

MANILA, Philippines - A septuagenarian businessman and his wife were found dead yesterday inside their home in Pasig City.

Salvador Paranas Sr. sustained a stab wound in the abdomen while his wife, Avelina, 63, was nearly decapitated. Their bodies were found in the living room of their house in Barangay San Joaquin at about 7 a.m.

Police are eyeing a land dispute in the family as the motive behind the killing.

Avelina’s brother, Romeo Tajolosa, said he was worried when the couple failed to go out of their house. He asked Imee Sera, allegedly a girlfriend of one of the couple’s sons, to open the door since she has a duplicate key.

They said they discovered the victim’s bodies in the living room. Neighbors said they heard Paranas shouting for help at about 2 a.m. but they did not investigate since the shouts stopped after a short while.   – Non Alquitran
