'Killer truck' driver flees from mob, gets caught by cops

-

MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested a truck driver Friday night as he tried to escape from an angry mob after his vehicle struck and killed a sexagenarian and injured another in Quezon City.

Senior Inspector Isidro Sanchez said Mario Custodio, 52, was driving an Isuzu Forward Wing Van Truck (RFJ-665) along the eastbound lane of Quezon Avenue when he hit cigarette vendor Jose San Antonio, 65, and auto electrician Vicente Omaña, 39. The two victims were crossing the road at the corner of Victory street at around 9 p.m.

Antonio was killed on the spot while Omaña was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center.

Sanchez said a group of pedestrians saw the incident and tried to go after Custodio, who reportedly sped away.

A police patrol car was in the area and was able to apprehend the fleeing suspect. – Reinir Padua
