Drag-racing bus driver known

MANILA, Philippines - The police have identified and will charge the driver who fled after his bus turned over following an alleged drag race, injuring 30 passengers on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City Wednesday morning.

Superintendent Rudie Valoria, chief of the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Quezon City Police District, said as of yesterday afternoon, bus driver Joel Ragay has yet to show up and present himself either to the police or the management of Nova Transport.

“He (Ragay) is still at large so we will just file a case of reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injury and damage to property against him,” Valoria told reporters in an interview.

Valoria said a flash alarm will then be sent to police units so Ragay “can be arrested anytime.”

Based on witnesses’ accounts, the bus driven by Ragay was allegedly racing against another bus early morning on Wednesday and at one point it turned to its side, injuring its 30 passengers.

Apart from the case against the driver, Valoria said they would also file a civil case against the bus company.

According to Valoria, the four passengers who reportedly sustained serious injuries were already in good condition yesterday. – Reinir Padua
