Aguilar wants residents to take up free livelihood courses

MANILA, Philippines - Las Piñas Mayor Vergel Aguilar is urging residents, especially the unemployed, to avail themselves of the city’s livelihood training programs and short courses to help them cope with the current economic hardship.

Aguilar said the city has lined up programs and short courses for the out-of-school youth, housewives and other interested residents, with the end goal that the beneficiaries will be able to get better jobs or be able to engage in an alternative source of livelihood.

The livelihood training will be conducted in coordination with the Las Piñas City Technical Education & Skills Development Administration (TESDA).

Aguilar said residents can enroll in any of the courses being offered such as cosmetology, hotel and restaurant services, automotive, refrigerator and air-conditioner repair, consumer electronics, personal computer operations, computer technician, food trade, dressmaking and curtain making, starting in the second week of March.

Aguilar also reiterated his call for residents to plant vegetables and root crops in vacant lots to deal with the rising food prices, as well as avail of its nutritional benefits.

“Backyard gardening could also be an alternative source of livelihood. It could also become part of the residents’ healthy lifestyle and contribute to environmental conservation,” he added. – Rhodina Villanueva
