MANILA, Philippines - A woman had her former live-in partner arrested by the police on Thursday afternoon in Quezon City after the man allegedly spread a video of them having sex last month.
According to the woman, suspect Hener Caunte, 21, spread the video using her own email address – to make it appear that she was the one sending the clip – to get back at her after their breakup and cause a scandal among her relatives.
Caunte’s father, Neri, spoke for his son and denied the charges, saying Hener could not have done it.
“I know my son. It’s not in his character to do such a thing,” the father told reporters yesterday at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District following Hener’s arrest.
Case investigator Police Officer 3 Maribel Versoza said Hener is facing charges under Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act.
Versoza also reminded women to be more cautious during intimate moments with their partners as these situations could lead to a scandal.
The complainant, a 24-year-old single mother from Antipolo, Rizal, said she had been with Hener for three months.
She told the police she and Hener had been staying at the house of his grandmother but Hener’s father said he had no knowledge that the two had moved in.
According to the woman, the video may have been taken on the night of Jan. 23. She told police she and Hener drank liquor that night and she suspected that her boyfriend might have put something into her drinks that made her lose consciousness.
She woke up the next day at a hotel with Hener. She told police she was aware something had happened between them that night but not the fact that it had been caught on video.
The woman said she decided to end their affair following a major fight on Jan. 25. But the suspect allegedly threatened her the next day that he would spread the video of their stay at the hotel.
She initially ignored it until Hener allegedly told her to check her mother’s email address. It was then when she found out that there was indeed a sex video.
Versoza said the complainant initially just filed a report at the Antipolo police but eventually decided to have Hener arrested after she found out that the clip had been emailed to her other relatives.
“The ex-boyfriend used the complainant’s own email address and made it appear that she was one sending out and spreading those obscene clips,” Versoza said.
