MANILA, Philippines - The Sy-owned SM City Parañaque headed the top 10 corporate taxpayers for the year 2008 in Parañaque City who were honored yesterday by the city government led by Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. Also given honors for being top taxpayers were Kraft Food Phils., Johnson and Johnson Phls., the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), American Wire and Cable Corp., Toyota Bicutan, San Miguel-Remco Packaging, San Miguel Brewery, IDS Marketing Phils, and Lamoiyan Inc.
Parañaque city hall spokesman Nelson Lacambra said the tax payments made by the honored corporations are confidential. However, he said the corporations, through their tax payments, have contributed to the economic growth of Parañaque as a city. “To us, by fulfilling their tax obligations to the city, they have contributed to the city’s economic growth,” said Lacambra.
The honored companies were given trophies and recognitions in ceremonies held at the Pagcor’s Casino Filipino Platimum Hall in Parañaque. Assisting Bernabe in conferring the recognitions were Parañaque City Reps. Eduardo Zialcita (First District) and Roilo Golez (Second District).
The awarding of the top corporate taxpayers is one of the highlights of Parañaque City’s observance of its 11th Cityhood Anniversary.
Earlier, Malacañang has declared, through Proclamation No.1714, Feb. 13 as a special non-working day in Parañaque City.
In issuing the proclamation by order of President Arroyo, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said, “It is but fitting to give the people of Parañaque the full opportunity to celebrate the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.” – Mike Frialde
