Five more Chinese nationals from Binondo, Manila identified the four women from mainland China who were arrested by the police as the same persons who have duped them with millions of cash and jewelry by pretending as fortune tellers and feng shui experts.
The new complainants, who belong to prominent Chinese families and requested not to be named, identified Mei Li, 45; Chen Rui Yi, 36; Chuang Tu Mei, 37 and Lo Sau Ing, 43, in a police lineup. The complainants said they have met the group who offered to cleanse their houses and business establishments of bad luck during feng shui sessions. However, the suspects disappeared after getting cash and jewelry in the guise that they have to do some rituals in driving off the evil spirits.
Meisic police station chief Superintendent Nelson Yabut said the suspects could be members of an international swindling syndicate. Their passports showed that they have traveled to Malaysia and Indonesia and could have perpetrated the same modus operandi like what they did to their victims in Binondo, Yabut said.
A team of police operatives, led by anti-crime section chief SPO4 Ver Navarro, raided the suspects’ rented rooms at the Great Eastern Hotel in Makati City yesterday but failed to arrest the alleged male leader of the group identified as Pai Xiyi.
