Chinese woman loses P.2 million to feng shui 'experts'
Police arrested yesterday four Chinese women who allegedly stole P200,000 from a compatriot living in Binondo, Manila after they convinced her to have her house examined through feng shui.
Police said suspects Mei Li, 45; Chen Rui Yi, 36; Chuang Tu Mei, 37 and Lo Sau Ing, 43, all billeted at the Great Eastern Hotel in Makati City, could have swindled other people as they traveled from China to Malaysia and Indonesia, before coming to the Philippines.
Complainant Uang Hiu Hiu, 47, said she met the four suspects along Ongpin street, and they convinced her to agree to a fortune-telling and feng shui session.
The victim said they ordered her to get all her jewelry and money in the house to drive off bad luck. The suspect left, bringing her money and jewelry with them.
Later the same day, Mei Li contacted the victim, asking for more money and jewelry to finally break the evil spell on her house. It was then that the victim sought the assistance of Binondo police, who arrested Mei Li after she received marked money. The suspect then led the police to her other cohorts. – Nestor Etolle
