Quarrel takes fatal turn in Las Piñas

- Rhodina Villanueva -

A policeman shot dead a 22-year-old man who fired at lawmen responding to a call about two men engaged in a quarrel along El Grande Avenue in Las Piñas City Friday afternoon.

Police Officer 1 Jayson Tiamson claimed he only shot at Michael Villaruel because the latter, upon seeing him and his colleagues, started to shoot at them.

Initial investigation showed that at about 4:55 p.m., Villaruel, of Concha Cruz Drive, BF Homes, Parañaque City, was arguing with a certain Benjamin Viloan after they bumped into each other at El Grande Avenue in BF International Village in Las Piñas.

Villaruel suddenly pulled out his .40 caliber firearm and pointed it at Viloan. The two reportedly had a previous misunderstanding.

Concerned bystanders called the police station and asked for assistance. Tiamson’s team proceeded to the site. Upon seeing the police, Villaruel became more agitated and started to fire at Tiamson’s group.

Tiamson fired back, hitting Villaruel in the body. PO3 Ariel Gupana said they are still conducting a follow-up investigation on the incident.
