Akyat Bahay gang strikes in Quezon City

Burglars, believed to be members of the Akyat Bahay gang, carted away over P150,000 in cash and valuables from the house of a social worker in Diliman, Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

Police said the unidentified suspects destroyed a window screen and went through the back door of the house of Lourdes Padilla-Espenido, 49, on Madasalin street in Teachers Village West while she and her family were sleeping.

The victim, who works as a social worker in Pasig City, woke up only to discover she had lost three laptop computers worth P150,000, a digital camera worth P13,000, and two cell phones worth P10,000.

Police Officer 2 Edwin de la Cruz said the suspects also took a wallet containing cash, identification cards, a driver’s license and ATM cards. He said the thieves could have broken into Espenido’s house between 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. yesterday. Police said they will investigate further to determine the identities of the thieves. – Edu Punay
