Quezon City urges youth: Register for 2010 polls
The Quezon City Anti Poverty Integration Task Force (AFITF) is calling on young voters in the city to register next year so they can vote in the 2010 national elections.
Dr. La Rainne Abad Sarmiento, AFITF head, has joined the nationwide campaign dubbed as “In Ka, Parehistro Ka!” to urged people who have recently turned 18 years old to register and be counted in the 2010 polls.
“A youth vote could be what we need to install pro-people (candidates) in elective positions especially in the national government,” she said.
Sarmiento said the youth should start focusing on the issues of the day so they could vote wisely in the coming elections.
Nationwide, about two million new voters are expected to register at the Commission on Elections office from January to December next year.
The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible voting (PPCRV) expects the number of young voters to swell to 11 million by 2010, which Sarmiento said could produce a national swing vote. – Perseus Echeminada
