Man faces raps for killing ex-starlet's husband

- Reinir Padua -

The police are preparing to file criminal charges against a man who allegedly killed the husband of former starlet Katrina Paula.

Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr., chief of the Homicide Investigation Section of the Quezon City Police District, said two witnesses claimed they saw Steve Jenares at the crime scene when businessman Anthony Yap was gunned down in front of his house in Barangay Nayon Kanluran last Dec. 12

One of the two witnesses gave a statement to the police yesterday, saying Jenares was the actual gunman, Pedrozo said.

“With this, we are already preparing murder charges against him (Jenares),” he told reporters in an interview.

Pedrozo also urged Jenares to surface if he really had nothing to do with the killing, as he claimed in a recent television report.

Pedrozo said Jenares remains at large since he was tagged in Yap’s slay.

The ex-starlet, whose real name is Angeline Samonte-Yap, appeared before the office of Pedrozo at around noon yesterday to give her statement regarding the incident.

Yap and Jenares had a row after Yap found out Jenares was allegedly contacting Angeline. The two men argued over the phone over this.

Last July, Yap survived an attack in which the gunman shot up his car in front of a bar he co-owned. He filed attempted murder charges against Jenares after investigators traced the license plate of the gunman’s vehicle to him.
