Man killed for pawning fake jewelry in Malabon
A man was shot dead early morning yesterday in Malabon City over a fake gold ring he reportedly pawned to the suspect’s kin.
Police said Rolando Bunton, 43, a resident of Angeles City in Pampanga, died on the spot from several bullet wounds.
The victim was walking with his unnamed live-in partner along Hernandez Street in Barangay Catmon at around 8 a.m. when suspect Jovet Hernandez, allegedly shot him with a .38 caliber revolver without provocation.
Investigation showed that on Saturday night, Bunton and his woman companion arrived at the suspect’s house, where they spent the night.
Unknown to Bunton, his host was nursing a grudge against him for reportedly pawning a fake gold ring for P1,000 to Hernandez’s relative a few months ago.
When Bunton went out of Hernandez’s house early the next morning with his woman companion to visit another friend in the area, the suspect allegedly followed them secretly.
Hernandez waited for a chance and shot Bunton, who was in Barangay Catmon to celebrate Christmas with his friends.
Bunton was instantly killed and the suspect fled with his weapon. The Malabon City police were still investigating the case yesterday.
