3 charged for Indian moneylender's slay

Police filed yesterday murder and illegal possession of firearms charges against three men who allegedly shot dead an Indian moneylender in Pasig City last Tuesday.

Charged before the Pasig City prosecutor’s office were Marlon Navarro, Robert Rivera, and Antonio Flores, who were arrested minutes after they allegedly killed businessman Gurbachan Singh Tamar, alias Mang Tony, in Kalawaan Village.

Pasig City police chief Superintendent Ramiro Bausa said the trio confessed that a certain Jojo hired them to kill Tamar on orders of another Indian national. Bausa said they are now hunting down Jojo, who is from Malabon City.

Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Superintendent Lino Calingasan directed Bausa to get the mastermind in Tamar’s killing. 

“The EPD is now hunting down the fourth suspect and the Indian mastermind in Singh’s killing,” Calingasan said.

Meanwhile, Bausa also returned yesterday the P188,000 found in Tamar’s possession when he was gunned down. The victim’s widow, Rosalie, received the money.

Police said Tamar was on his motorcycle and collecting payments from his clients near the barangay hall of Barangay Kalawaan at about 9 a.m. when the suspects blocked his path.

One of the suspects pulled out a .45 caliber automatic pistol and shot Tamar in the head. The suspects then commandeered a tricycle to escape.

However, a police team headed by Chief Inspector Anacleto Casimiro, head of the Police Community Precinct 2, rushed to the area after receiving reports of the shooting and cornered the suspects after a brief chase.

Bausa said one of the three suspects yielded the fatal weapon used in the killing of Tamar. During tactical interrogation, the suspects claimed a certain Jojo from Malabon and another Indian national promised them money after they kill Tamar.   – Non Alquitran
