Quezon City fire destroys 30 shanties

-

A fire that lasted for almost two hours in Quezon City left 50 families homeless before noon yesterday.

Reports from the Quezon City Fire District stated that around 30 houses at a shantytown in Barangay Doña Imelda were razed by fire.

Senior Fire Office 1 Jaime Viscocho said arson investigators were still trying to determine what may have caused the fire and the amount of damage it caused.

The blaze started at around 11:20 a.m. and reached Task Force Alpha before it was put out at 1:01 p.m. It reportedly started at the second-floor of a two-story shanty.

According to Viscocho, around 30 firetrucks, including those from volunteer groups, were dispatched to put out the flames.

He said firefighters had difficulty containing the flames because of the narrow alleys leading to the source of the fire.   – Reinir Padua
