MPD warns vs FX taxi robbers

Police have released a sketch of one of two armed robbers believed behind a series of robberies involving passengers of FX taxis.

“The gang has become active once again especially at this time when people start to receive their bonuses. We are assuring the public that their policemen are doing their best to find and apprehend the suspects,” said Chief Inspector Benigno Macalindong, who heads the crimes against property section of the Manila Police District.

Yesterday morning, the suspects robbed six passengers, mostly women, of an FX taxi bound for Quiapo. Macalindong said the two men, armed with a .45 caliber pistol and a fan knife, boarded the AC Family FX taxi (PVJ-426) along Philcoa in Quezon City.

The cab driver decided to make a detour on Quintos Street, due to traffic along España Boulevard in Sampaloc, where the two suspects announced the heist. Macalindong said the suspects took P50,000 worth of cash and valuables then ordered the driver to take them to the foot of the Nagtahan flyover where they escaped in a maze of houses along Fajardo Street.

The victims described one of the suspects as in his early 20s, at least five-foot-two, slim built, with dark complexion, sporting a moustache and armed with a gun.

Macalindong personally led his men scouring the area where the suspects were last seen, but failed to find them.

“We are also calling on the public to provide us information on the suspects,” he said.   – Nestor Etolle
