The police are currently searching for a man said to be possibly behind the killing of a bar owner, the husband of former starlet Katrina Paula, in Quezon City yesterday morning.
Victim Anthony Yap, 38, reportedly has had a rift with a certain Steve Jenares against whom the businessman even filed a case earlier this year, said Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr., chief of the Homicide Investigation Section of the Quezon City Police District.
“We’re finding out where to locate him (Jenares) as he may have the motive to kill the victim,” Pedrozo told reporters in an interview.
Yap, part-owner of a bar on West Avenue, was gunned down in front of his house in Barangay Nayon Kanluran at 6:15 a.m.
A police report stated the businessman was about to open the main gate of their residence to park his Honda Civic when the killing happened. Two men suddenly arrived on a motorcycle and one of them used a handgun to repeatedly shoot the victim in the back.
Although already wounded, the victim attempted to run away but the gunman fired another shot. Yap died on the spot. The suspects then fled on the same motorcycle.
According to Pedrozo, Yap and Jenares had a rift after the victim found that the latter “had been contacting his wife’s cellular phone,” alleged to court her. Pedrozo said Yap then contacted and confronted Jenares over the phone.
On July 19, Yap’s sedan was shot up in front of the bar but the businessman survived.
Police were able to trace Jenares after witnesses were able to take note of the license plate of the attacker’s vehicle. An artist’s sketch of the assailant was also similar to Jenares’ features, Pedrozo said.
Yap then filed attempted murder charges against Jenares that has been pending at the city prosecutor’s office.
