Ospital ng Maynila to reopen AIDS clinic

-

Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has announced the reopening of the AIDS clinic at the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (OMMC) in commemorating World AIDS Day during yesterday’s flag ceremony.

Lim was joined by city officials and city social hygiene chief Dr. Dianne Mendoza, who distributed red ribbons to city employees for them to indicate their support to the campaign against acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Lim told city employees AIDS is a disease that threatens millions of people around the world and he stressed the need to address the problem to prevent it from spreading worldwide.

The AIDS clinic at the OMMC was inaugurated in 1994 and operated until 1998 when funds for its operations nearly stopped, paving the way for its eventual closure. The clinic will reopen by next year, Lim said. – Sandy Araneta
