Cabbie killed in Valenzuela
A taxi driver was found dead in his taxicab Thursday night in Valenzuela City.
SPO2 Jesus Sagisi said that residents of Barangay Malinta discovered Rudy Cuenca’s body inside his Mer-Jun taxi (PWV-738) at around 9:15 p.m. with gaping stab wounds in the chest and nape.
“He is a victim of robbery with homicide,” Sagisi told The STAR.
Raffy Renegado told the police that he saw the Mer-Jun taxi maneuvering along Consolacion Street but the cab’s right tires accidentally fell into a shallow canal.
A man on the driver’s seat alighted from the taxi and asked for help from bystanders to push his cab from the canal.
Renegado and his group came to the man’s aid but noticed bloodstains on his polo shirt. When they told him about it, the man ran away, leaving the taxi behind. The bystanders looked inside the taxi and found the victim on the passenger side of the cab already dead.
Cuenca’s wallet was missing but police recovered his driver’s license. The police also found inside the taxi a bloodied knife the suspect apparently used to kill Cuenca.
The suspect, described by witnesses as between 25 and 30 years old, 5’6’’ tall, curly-haired and with pimples, is being sought by the local police. – Pete Laude
