Police on watch for cabbie who dragged, injured UST coed

Quezon City policemen are now looking for a cabbie whose taxicab allegedly dragged on the road and injured a female student over the weekend.

Senior Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula, Quezon City Police District director, said he has ordered his men to track down the cabbie involved in the incident after the plate number (TWC-897) attached to the vehicle was traced to an Isuzu jeepney owned by Nicolas and Wilma Perez of Pagasa, Quezon City

A report filed before the QCPD-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the incident happened at around 2 a.m. Saturday after the student boarded a KUL Taxi after attending a late night activity at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.

Upon reaching their house in Sta. Mesa Heights in Quezon City, the victim gave P1,000 – the only bill left with her – as her fare for the taxi ride.

The driver allegedly dropped the P1,000 bill, produced three P20 bills and told the victim’s mother, who was waiting at the gate, that the student  paid him P60.

But the student told her mother that she paid P1,000 and that the cabbie did not want to give her  the change.

The mother attempted to seek the help of village watchmen at a nearby outpost, prompting the driver to speed off with the student still inside the vehicle.

The mother panicked and informed her husband about what happened. The couple then received a text message from their daughter that she was at a nearby gasoline station. The couple later found their daughter already bloodied because of what happened.

According to the victim, the driver got mad and even threatened to kill her even after she told the cabbie that he could keep the money.

Along Retiro Street, the victim opened the door of the taxicab and attempted to jump off but the driver grabbed her arm even if the other half of her body was already out of the vehicle.

The driver finally let go of the victim’s arm, causing the latter to fall on the pavement. As a result, she sustained scrapes on her knees and hands and even hitting her face on the road.
