Man names 3 suspects in wife's slay
The husband of a woman killed in a failed robbery in Mandaluyong last Oct. 28 has identified three suspects arrested in Makati last Thursday as the killers of his wife.
Manuel Luis Sazon told police his wife, Ofelia Salamat was shot by Benjamin Centeno, Edgar Cayanan and Armando Dehino.
The couple had just withdrawn $60,000 from a bank on Libertad Street in Mandaluyong and were driving towards Shaw Boulevard when the three suspects on motorcycles ordered Sazon at gunpoint to stop the car.
However, Sazon sped off, prompting the suspects to open fire at the car, hitting Salamat at the back. She died at the Cardinal Santos Hospital in nearby San Juan.
At that time, Salamat’s mother and 15-year-old son were also in the car.
Mandaluyong police chief Senior Superintendent Carlos de Sagun said the suspects had admitted to the crime and named one of their companions as one Larry Herrera.
Police identified Herrera through the surveillance camera of the bank, where he was monitored sending money to his wife.
Police arrested Centeno, Cayanan and Dehino at the parking lot of the Guadalupe Shopping Mall in Makati last Thursday.
Police charged Centeno, Cayanan and Dehino with attempted robbery with homicide before the Mandaluyong prosecutor’s office. – Non Alquitran
