Manila marks World Diabetes Day

The Manila city government observed World Diabetes Day yesterday with a series of activities, starting with the Global Diabetes Walk around the city hall and culminating with the lighting of the clock tower in blue at 6 p.m.

This year’s theme, “Bring Diabetes to Light,” focuses on diabetes in children and adolescents. Organizers asked the public to join the celebration by lighting homes, buildings, monuments and landmarks in blue to form a circle of blue worldwide.

The blue circle is the global symbol of diabetes and signifies the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes pandemic.   – Sandy Araneta
