Dog meat trader arrested in QC
Sixty-seven ailing aspins or “asong Pinoy” were recovered from a dog meat trader caught in Quezon City.
The aspins were among the 75 caged dogs in an L300 van intercepted on EDSA near Kamuning Road at around 10 p.m. Sunday by animal welfare advocates and Quezon City police.
Network for Animals’ Melchor Alipio said they tailed Enrique Panlaque’s vehicle from Trece Martires, Cavite.
Alipio said the dogs were to be sold in Northern Luzon for P600 each, adding that Panlaque had been arrested six times since 2001 for selling dog meat.
He also said Panlaque has employees going around Southern Luzon looking for ailing dogs to buy or stray dogs to catch. – Reinir Padua
