Manila cops nab 30 'undesirables'
The Manila police apprehended at least 30 “undesirable characters” in a series of operations as part of security preparations for the Second Global Forum on Migration Development and Human Rights to be held in Manila from Oct. 27 to 30.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is expected to attend the meeting of some 1,500 foreign delegates.
Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales ordered the police to clear the streets of Manila of suspected criminals and undesirable persons who may bring a bad impression to the visiting foreign delegates.
District Mobile Force (DMF) chief Senior Superintendent Jose Pablo Balagtas said his men have already rounded more than 30 persons, including 11 suspected prostitutes in Malate and Ermita.
DMF officers also arrested three suspected robbers, including a minor, after the suspects robbed a female jeepney passenger in Sampaloc, Manila the other night.
Inspector Benjie Abad said Eric Tinaya, 24; RJ Alimagno, 18; and a 16-year-old suspect were involved in several holdup incidents in passenger jeepneys.
