QC cops to launch 'super blotter'

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is set to introduce a high-tech “super blotter” that would give the city’s 11 police stations easy access to crime-related information in the city.

Senior Superintendent Elmo San Diego, QCPD acting chief, said in a report to Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. during an exec meeting on Wednesday that for the past four months, an information technology firm has been working on the super blotter book, now almost 90 percent complete.

He said that the super blotter will guide police station desk officers in interviewing crime victims and witnesses, thus avoiding possible mistakes in crime information brought by poor handwriting and human error.

“With the super blotter uniformity in the entries of data will be observed and there is an assurance that will be no details that may be overlooked and not entered at all. Alteration is prevented,” San Diego said.

He said the project is doable and practical because it is not dependent on networks or Internet connections, can be run on older computer machines and data can be easily consolidated with the use of flash drive.

“The only need is a click of a button to generate tables, charts and reports currently used by the Philippine National Police,” San Diego said. – Perseus Echeminada
