Manila court says Quirino grandson to stay in jail

-

A Manila judge has ordered the continued detention of a grandson of President Elpidio Quirino and his driver while the prosecution is questioning before the Supreme Court the ruling of the Court of Appeals quashing the murder charges against them.

Judge Thelma Bunyi-Medina of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 32 suspended the proceedings against Luisito Gonzalez and Antonio Buenaflor, who are accused of killing Gonzalez’s stepbrother, Federico Delgado.

She has to suspend proceedings because the CA ruling is not yet final and executory, and that it can still be reversed, she added.

Medina also dismissed the defense plea to oust the public prosecutor handling the case, who Gonzalez’s lawyers accused of intentionally delaying the disposition of the case.   – Sandy Araneta
