16 MMDA workers suspended for stealing P5.1-M vertical clearance frames

- Michael Punongbayan -

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ordered yesterday the immediate suspension of 16 of its employees for their alleged involvement in the theft of P5.1 million worth of vertical clearance frames owned by the Light Railway Transit Authority (LRTA).

MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando said Roberto Lao, 45; Fernando Flores, 35; Gil Silos, Rhoyleen Arro, Joven Abanes, Gilmar de Loria, Mark Davie Magaro, Carlo Mapano, Benny Aguilar, Richard Ordiales, Rico Vico, Joven Avanes, Alex Inocando, Miguel Perfecto, Rolien Arayata and Johnny Aganan will be under suspension pending the results of an investigation.

LRTA Administrator Mel Robles filed a complaint against the employees after learning that the vertical clearance signs were taken by the Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group (SCOG) operatives of the MMDA from the corner of C-3 and Rizal Avenue in Caloocan City last July 22.

The loss was discovered by LRTA safety engineer Edgar de La Cruz during a routine inspection.

MMDA-SCOG personnel allegedly removed the posts, which was put up to limit the height of vehicles that can pass through the area, without informing the LRTA management.
