DepEd sends 2 teachers to international meet

-

The Department of Education (DepEd) has selected two public school teachers to represent the Philippines in an international teacher’s conference in Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei Darussalam later this month.

Jesusa Antiquiera, an English teacher in P. Gomez Elementary School in Santa Cruz, Manila, and Rowena Hibanada, a Social Studies teacher in Pedro Diaz High School in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, will attend a conference of teachers from around the world that will discuss teachers’ professional standards, teaching for the 21st century, special education, technical and vocational education, information and communications technology, co-curriculum education and counseling.

Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said sending Antiquiera and Hibanada was DepEd’s way of rewarding their exemplary service.

Antiquiera and Hibanada were among this year’s winners of the Metrobank Foundation’s annual Search for Outstanding Teachers.

Lapus and Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, chairman of the Senate’s education committee, co-chaired the final board of judges for this year’s search.

Antiquiera and Hibanada joined other outstanding teachers presented by George Ty, Metrobank founder and group chairman, to President Arroyo in ceremonies held in Malacañang recently.   – Rainier Allan Ronda
