Ex-convict back in jail for drug pushing

- Pete Laude -

A man who recently served 15 years in the Davao penal colony for homicide was arrested by anti-narcotics police officers in Caloocan City Friday for drug pushing.

Chief Inspector Bartolome Tarnate, Northern Police District-District Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (NPD-DAIDSOTG) chief identified the suspect as Jaime Yumul, 60, a resident of Bagong Silang.

Yumul, also known in their area as Tatang, yielded a sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P1,000 when he was arrested at around 1:30 a.m.

Police Officer 2 Ariosto Rana said that on Sept. 30, NPD director Chief Superintendent Pedro Tango, directed Tarnate to verify the reported drug pushing activities of a couple identified only as Tatang and Auring, in Bagong Silang.

A team led by Senior Police Officer 2 Mario Saddoy conducted surveillance operations in Bagong Silang, where the suspects were reportedly often seen.

The DAIDSOTG police officers were still trying to convince Yumul to reveal the source of his illegal drugs. Rana said that with the scarcity of shabu on the street, “the price of the illegal drug surged to P1,000 per packet.”

Tarnate said a gram of shabu has a street value of at least P10,000.
