BI nabs British sex offender
A 70-year-old British man, wanted in the United Kingdom for allegedly sexually molesting a seven-year-old girl five years ago, has been apprehended in Taguig City and faces deportation.
Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said it was the London Metropolitan Police that informed the BI of the presence of Michael Cassidy in the country.
“The Philippines is not a sanctuary for child molesters and sex offenders,” he said.
BI Associate Commissioner Roy Almoro said Cassidy is to stand trial in the United Kingdom, where he is a registered sex offender.
Cassidy, officials said, has been overstaying in the country for two years. Libanan said it was not easy finding Cassidy, who was arrested in his house along San Francisco street in Rockyside Village.
Cassidy will be sent back to his country after the BI board of commissioners issues an order for his summary deportation. He will be banned from returning to the country. – Evelyn Macairan
