Chinese businessmen offer bounty for rob-slay suspect
The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) has put up a P50,000 reward for anybody who can give information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect in the rob-slay of a Chinese national in Binondo, Manila last Sunday.
FFCCCII officials met with Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales yesterday to discuss the P50,000 bounty. Rosales said the federation, aside from the victim’s family, is calling for the early solution of the case.
“We are now talking with concerned family members of the victim to piece together the jigsaw puzzle which could lead to the arrest of the suspect,” Rosales said.
Chinese consul Huang Li is also keeping a close watch on the progress of the case, Rosales added.
Police have identified Jonas Basas, 27, a store helper, as the prime suspect in the killing of Wu Shou Bang, 20, who arrived in the country as tourist on March 20 and worked as a manager at his uncle Zhuang Xiong Biao’s store, Glowing Things General Merchandize on Clavel street in Binondo.
According to Chief Inspector Dominador Arevalo Jr., who heads the homicide section of the Manila Police District (MPD), the suspect and Wu figured in a verbal altercation prior to the killing.
A witness said he heard the victim shouting in Chinese at Basas who was answering in Filipino inside the warehouse. Minutes later, the witness saw Basas hurriedly leaving the warehouse. The victim was discovered slumped on the floor and with hack wounds all over his body.
Police recovered a bloodstained 18-inch samurai sword at the scene of the crime. The victim also lost his Apple iPhone worth P7,000, a P19,000 Nokia N78 cellular phone and a wallet containing P1,000.
Anyone who has information about Basas may call up the MPD homicide office at telephone number 524-4311, Arevalo said.
