Manila needs 200 policemen

The Manila Police District (MPD) is in need of 200 new policemen to fill up the vacuum created by 210 cops who left the service due to retirement, death, separation, dismissal or absence without official leave (AWOL).

The applicants, who will have the rank of police officers 1 (PO1), should be a Filipino citizen, at least 21 years old but not more than 31 years old, at least five-foot-four for males and five-foot-two for females, and a gradute of a four-year course, a board passer or have passed the National Police Commission (Napolcom) eligibility tests.

The applicant should also be a bona fide resident of Manila with an endorsement from the city mayor, according to MPD’s Personnel Section chief Superintendent Felipe Cazon Jr.

“It is now the policy of PNP chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. to assign a policeman to the place where he lives to be more effective in fighting crime,” Cazon said.

Phase 1 of the application process involves physical evaluation of the applicant as well as his documents at the MPD headquarters.

The applicant will then be sent to Bicutan in Taguig for his agility, medical and neuro tests. If he or she passes both, the final evaluation will be at Camp Crame, where the applicant will undergo basic police training for six months.
