A subdivision guard who responded to a homeowner’s call about a prowler early yesterday morning shot an unidentified man who was fleeing from the village guards of Filinvest 2 subdivision in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
According to a police report, security guard Richard Magbanua, who works for the Commander Security Services Inc., fled the scene of the shooting and remains at large as of yesterday morning.
Senior Police Officer 1 Mario Turiano said Magbanua and the other village guards responded to a call from resident Joel Yang at past 4 a.m.
Yang said he saw a man scaling a concrete fence behind his house. He reportedly has been a victim of burglars who scaled the wall and broke into his house.
Upon seeing several security guards who responded to Yang’s call, the suspected burglar ran away.
The guards gave chase, and Magbanua caught up to the man and shot him in the body. The other security guards brought the man to the East Avenue Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival at 5:35 a.m.
The slain man, estimated to be 30 to 35 years old, was not carrying any loot. It was not mentioned in the police report whether he was carrying any weapon when he was shot. – Reinir Padua
