Marikina offers free breast cancer screening

-

Women from Marikina City’s 16 barangays can avail of breast cancer screening for free starting on Aug. 21.

“Screening tests for breast cancer have been known to save lives. By finding the cancer before the symptoms appear, women have a better chance of beating the disease,” Marikina City Mayor Maria Lourdes Fernando said as she urged women to take advantage of the free service.

The service will be initially offered at the barangay hall of Barangay Malanday.

The program is a collaboration between Marikina City and ICanServe Foundation.

Fernando said pre-registration is ongoing at the Breast Cancer Screening Section on the 3rd floor of the Marikina Healthy City Center.

Fernando said the medical staff of the City Health Office will conduct the screening, assisted by barangay health officers and family health workers trained by Dr. Corazon Ngelangel, an oncologist and cancer screening advocate.

The schedule of free breast cancer screening in Marikina’s 15 other barangays will be announced shortly. – Non Alquitran
