Taguig allots 20 hectares for food production
To help increase food production in the city, Taguig City Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga has ordered concerned local officials to reserve at least 20 hectares of agricultural land for this purpose.
“We have to tap our remaining agricultural land to make sure that they contribute in our current food production. We need to maximize our local production, considering the current food situation in the country,” Tiñga said as he issued a directive to the city’s agricultural office and planning and development office.
More than 150 hectares of land in Barangays Calzada, Palingon, Ibayo and Napindan remain agricultural.
City agricultural office head Elpidio Javier said the city government will supply farmers with certified seedlings and fertilizers to ensure a good harvest. He added that with the help of Harbest Agri-Business Corp., farmers will learn to produce crops that are cost-effective and resistant to dry spells. – Rhodina Villanueva
