2 suspected motorbike thieves caught

The police arrested two suspected motorcycle thieves at a checkpoint in Valenzuela City Saturday afternoon.

City police chief Senior Superintendent Ranier Idio identified the suspects as Vicente Gomez Jr., 32, and Rodel Vargas, 27, both residents of Valenzuela.

The police confiscated a black Honda Wave motorcycle and a loaded .38 caliber revolver from the suspects.

Chief Inspector Danilo Bugay, Valenzuela City police Station Investigation and Detective Management Branch chief, said that the suspects were apprehended in Barangay Bagbaguin at around 1:30 p.m.

An anti-carjacking police team led by SPO1 Jose Rodel Pongyan and PO3 Dexter Magno were conducting routine checkpoint inspections at Sitio Malinis in Barangay Bagbaguin when they chanced upon the suspects riding in tandem on a black motorcycle without a license plate.

While the police were asking about the papers of the suspects’ motorcycle, which Gomez and Vargas failed to produce, the lawmen saw a revolver tucked into Gomez’s belt.

When asked about the gun’s license, Gomez could not show any, Bugay said, adding that the suspects later admitted stealing the motorcycle somewhere in Novaliches, Quezon City. – Pete Laude
