Motorcyclist cut in half in Pasig accident

The body of a motorcycle driver was cut in two when he was sandwiched between two trailer trucks in Pasig City yesterday.

It took traffic enforcers at least five hours to untangle traffic at the corner of Ortigas Avenue extension and Lanuza street in Barangay Ugong where Wilfredo Gregorio Trinidad was killed.

“Our traffic enforcers worked for hours to retrieve the victim’s body and also to tow away the trailer trucks,” said Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Superintendent Leon Nilo de la Cruz.

De la Cruz said Trinidad was on his way home when his motorcycle was rammed by a wayward truck (WKE-532) loaded with cement at about 2 a.m.

The truck dragged the motorcycle and hit a parked trailer truck (ZJG-260) loaded with gravel and sand. The truck’s driver was identified as Rico Dimarugot.

Quoting initial reports, De la Cruz said driver Fernando Mallari lost control of his cement-laden truck after hitting a Mazda vehicle (PCU-232).

Witness Marlon delos Santos said the victim stopped at a red light but Mallari’s wayward truck came rushing towards him.

Several witnesses claimed that a pregnant woman passenger was scolding Mallari, asking him to slow down, but he continued stepping on the gas.

The EPD director said the victim apparently did not notice the speeding truck and was hit from behind and was sandwiched between the two giant trucks.

The victim’s torso was thrown onto the road while the other half was still pinned on the motorbike, which was a total wreck.

Mallari was also hurt in the incident and is being treated at the Medical City. De la Cruz ordered that Mallari be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide before the Pasig City prosecutor’s office.
