Navotas gets 20th pumping station

-

Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco has announced that the city’s 20th pumping station has been completed.

Tiangco said the City Engineering Office (CEO) reported that they also have completed the testing of the river wall, floodgate and the power pump of the Badeo Cinco pumping station in Barangay San Roque in a dry run Friday.

Tiangco said he is optimistic they may finally experience a flood-free barangay when the pumping station is fully operational.

Tiangco added that another pumping station, which is being constructed under the city’s “Bombastik” flood control program, will be finished soon in Barangay Tangos.

The pumping stations have been proven effective in the areas of Bangkulasi, Sipac-Almacen, Vadeo Dos, Kahunari, Daanghari, Babansi, Yangco, Phase 2 Area 1, Mamale, Maliputo, Bagumbayan, Taganahan, two units in San Rafael, and five units in Tanza.

Tiangco boasted that with the construction of these pumping stations, flooding in Navotas has been effectively reduced by some 70 percent, “by conservative estimates.”

Tiangco also announced more infrastructure projects are at the forefront of the city government’s thrust to be self-reliant and proactive.

“We cannot be too dependent on the national government. We have proven that we can do many things without the help of the national government,” said the mayor.

City Planning and Development Officer (MPDO) Raffy Serrano said that the local government draws up a list of projects every year prioritizing education and health facilities, construction of roads, and repairs of drainage systems, canals, and waterways.

Tiangco said the completion of these projects was due to the city government’s prudent spending of taxpayers’ money. – Jerry Botial
