Illegal abbatoir discovered in market

Quezon City officials accidentally discovered a clandestine slaughterhouse under the basement of the Nepa Q-mart, which yielded at least 100 carabaos, cattle and pigs ready for slaughter.

City Treasurer Victor Endriga said he and his team were conducting a routine inspection of weighing scales at public and private markets in the city when they stumbled upon the slaughterhouse.

He said he will recommend to Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. the closure of the illegal facility and the filing of administrative and criminal charges against the operators of the market.

Endriga said he will refer the matter of the livestock found at the slaughterhouse to the Bureau of Animal Industry and the city veterinary office. – Perseus Echeminada
