Pasig gets new top cop; Parañaque, Taguig next

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has named Senior Superintendent Roberto Aliggayu as the new police chief of Pasig City, replacing Senior Superintendent Francisco Uyami Jr., who has held the post for more than two years.

Uyami’s relief is based on a decision of PNP chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. to relieve city and provincial police chiefs who have been at their post for more than two years to give other aspiring police officials a chance to “show their worth.”

 Uyami will take over the post vacated by Aliggayu, that of the chief of staff of the Eastern Police District (EPD).

Aliggayu belongs to the Philippine Military Academy Class ’84 while Uyami belongs to PMA Class ’82.

EPD director Chief Superintendent Leon Nilo de la Cruz said Aliggayu’s appointment has the approval of the leadership of the PNP and the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

De la Cruz said he already sent a formal letter to Pasig City Mayor Bobby Eusebio informing him of Uyami’s relief. He added that he will pay Eusebio a visit today to set the turnover ceremony anytime this week.

Earlier, San Juan police chief Superintendent Rodelio Jocson voluntarily relinquished his post, which he held for more than three years. This leaves Superintendent Ronald Estilles of Parañaque and Alfred Corpus of Taguig City as the only police chiefs in Metro Manila who have been at their post more than two years.

Razon and NCRPO chief Director Geary Barias have already informed the mayors of Parañaque City and Taguig City of their wish to relieve their respective police chiefs for overstaying.

The members of the Senior Officers Placement and Promotions Board (SOPPB) at Camp Crame are still deliberating on the candidates to replace Jocson, Estilles and Corpus.
