2 rob suspects killed in QC shootout

-

Quezon City policemen gunned down two of three men they saw robbing the passengers of a jeepney (TWK-698) along Commonwealth Avenue at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The two suspects remain unidentified but their tattoos indicate they were members of the Sigue-Sigue Sputnik gang, Superintendent Alex Sintin, chief of the District Police Intelligence Operating Unit of the Quezon City Police District, told The STAR.

Sintin said the police recovered from two .38-caliber revolvers and a canister of teargas from the suspects, as well as some of the items taken from the jeepney passengers.

Sinsin said the police officers have been on stakeout along Commonwealth Avenue because of the “rampant cases of robbery involving jeepneys and buses.”

The suspects reportedly boarded the jeepney at the corner of Tandang Sora Avenue and declared a heist near the Iglesia ni Cristo compound. They got off near Philcoa, taking with them their victims’ cellular phones, cash and grocery items.

The policemen called their attention, but the two suspects opened fire at the lawmen, triggering a shootout. The two died from multiple gunshot wounds, while the third suspect was able to escape.     – Reinir Padua
