Businessman, driver hurt in carjacking

- Reinir Padua -

A businessman lost his brand-new car to armed men who shot him and pistol-whipped his driver early morning yesterday in Quezon City.

Warren Ng was brought to the St. Luke’s Medical Center for the gunshot wound he sustained in the back from an M-16 rifle held by one of the suspects.

Ng, who resides in New Manila, Quezon City, lost his model 2008 white Toyota Grandia (ZMN-973). His driver Jeorge Amorado was hit with the butt of the rifle in the face and back.

Senior Police Officer 1 Pio Torrecampo said the carjacking involved around five men with handguns and long firearms and wearing bonnets.

The incident happened at about 4:25 a.m. at the corner of Scout Torillo and Timog Avenue in Barangay Sacred Heart.

Amorado momentarily parked the vehicle just as Ng was withdrawing cash from an automated teller machine.

An armed man got off a silver Honda Civic with undetermined plates and demanded the Grandia’s keys from Amorado. When Amorado resisted, the suspect hit him with the M-16 rifle.

At this point, Ng went out of the ATM booth and the suspect demanded the cash he had just withdrawn. When Ng refused, the suspect fired at him.

When both victims had fallen, the suspects fled with Ng’s car but failed to take the cash.
