Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has inaugurated last week a two story, high tech public library worth P10 million in Novaliches, Quezon City to promote reading among residents.
The Novaliches Public library also known as “SB Library and Information Technology Center” has a wide array of reference books, periodicals, almanacs and encyclopedias. It is also equipped with 12 personal computers where researchers can work.
“This is what I really wanted to do, that is, for the city residents to develop once again their interest in reading,” Belmonte said.
City librarian Emelita Villanueva said a 30 minute Internet use will be offered free of charge including the printing of two page information materials.
She said the library is located in one of the city’s most populated barangays, aside from serving the information needs of the students in the area, the library is also expected to benefit out of school youth as well as senior citizens there.
Meanwhile, the QC Associated Ladies Foundation, chaired by Joy Belmonte Alimurong has donated six boxes of children’s books, educational toys and rubber matting to boost the collection of the Novaliches public library.
The city has about 21 library branches, including the QC Hall main library located at the city hall complex.
