A security guard assaulted a police officer who apprehended him for a simple traffic violation in Quezon City Saturday.
A report stated that Police Officer 3 Augusto Sanchez and PO2 Mario Maramag were patrolling Commonwealth Avenue at past 11 p.m. when they saw Petronilo Rontos, 44, driving his motorcycle against the flow of traffic.
This prompted the police officers to flag down Rontos and ask for his driver’s license and the vehicle’s documents.
The policemen were about to bring Rontos to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Sector 5 when Rontos ran away, taking with him his license and the motorcycle’s papers, but leaving behind his motorcycle.
Sanchez and Maramag chased and eventually caught Rontos, but not after a scuffle where Sanchez sustained injuries to his right hand.
A similar incident happened Friday night along Roces Avenue, also in Quezon City.
A report reaching the QCPD-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit identified the suspects as truck driver Joseph Esteban and his helper Michael Alapag.
A police desk officer stated that SPO4 Jaime Albao of the QCPD-Mobile Patrol Unit accosted the two for a traffic violation at around 10 p.m.
The two allegedly resisted arrest, prompting the police officer to file charges of direct assault. – Reinir Padua
